(CMR) Several unidentified men went on the University College of the Cayman Island's campus today armed with weapons intending to assault someone on campus.
Reports are that on Tuesday afternoon shortly before 2:20 p.m. the RCIPS responded to a report of two males on the UCCI's campus on Olympic Way. It was reported that an altercation had taken place involving multiple persons, at least two of whom had brandished blade weapons.
One was armed with a machete and they confronted a third man at the location. No one was injured and all persons involved fled before the arrival of the police.
Students who witnessed the incident confirm that both men were armed with knives/machete and that an innocent female student almost got stabbed in the altercation. There is some information that other students on campus may have had some involvement. Students were concerned that no immediate steps were taken to secure the campus and other students during the incident.
The RCIPS is working with the security staff and faculty of UCCI, and has implemented increased patrols and police presence at the location as well as other nearby educational institutions, to deter any further activity of this nature. Persons are reminded that engaging in violence, threats, or other disorderly behavior in public is an offense under the Penal Code which carries a custodial sentence.
The matter is currently under investigation and anyone with any information is asked to contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
