(CMR) Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC) is suing the parent company of Margarittaville Beach Resort Cayman, MV Cayman Ltd for almost $200,000 according to a Writ of Summons filed on Wednesday in Grand Court.
According to the legal documents MV Cayman Lt.d formally HHG Cayman Ltd. was first registered and incorporated in the Cayman Islands on June 25, 2018. It entered into an agreement with CUC in November 2015 to provide electrical services to the commercial property at 259 West Bay Road.
That property is commonly known as Margarittaville Beach Resort, but it has recently been announced on their website they will be rebranding today something else.
CUC indicated they made “several attempts to reach an agreement” but the Defendant failed to repay the outstanding invoices. On July 28, 2020 they issued a formal demand letter to Jonathan Murphy a director of the company.
However, $199,704.92 remains outstanding. They are seeing that amount plus interest. CUC is being represented by HSM Chambers. The Writ was served at the corporate offices of MV Cayman Ltd. c/o G.K Management Limited.
The owners of the resort have been sued by some property owners and it was also disclosed that employees have allegedly not been paid pension for years. They owners of units at the restore had applied to have the company wound up leaving other creditors wondering if they will ever be paid. The Department of Labour and Pensions have launched an investigation.
Some smaller company have also reached out to CMR months ago indicating that they were also owed money for services rendered.
