(CMR) The Department of Planning has acknowledged that a mansion built in West Bay along Mary Mollie Hydes Road has actually placed their landscaping on the public road in contravention with the law. The matter was initially brought to the public's attention in December by the Concerned Citizen's Group who observed that large boulders and palm trees had been placed in the public roadway.
The group's member, Ezmie Smith, first made contact on December 19 and again on January 19. After receiving no response for quite some time from Planning they have no responded indicating that department staff met with the owner's architect and verified the landscaping does infringe on Mary Mollie Hydes Road – said to be West Bay's oldest road. In the circumstances, they have been advised that a Certificate of Occupancy would not be issued for the house until the trees, rocks, and landscaping were removed from the public road reserve.
There is no indication if a set deadline has been suggested to the homeowner.
