(CMR) A man who was arrested earlier this year for possession of a firearm and ammunition has been sentenced to nine years in prison after admitting that he also used the gun in an incident at Vic's Bar last year. Marlon Sharpe (42) was arrested and charged in April after turning up at his ex-girlfriend's home with a loaded black handgun and several rounds of ammunition.
Sharpe was on bail at the time after being arrested in relation to a shooting at Vic’s Bar on 6 December last year. He was charged with possession of an imitation firearm in that incident because the police were unable to recover a weapon. Reports are that Sharpe hit a man over the head with the gun before leaving the bar and firing the gun in the air twice while threatening the man.
Sharpe, who claimed he had a piece of iron, was charged with possession of an imitation firearm. He was bailed on 20 March until sentencing for the conviction of possession of an imitation firearm. However, days before his sentencing he turned up at his ex-girlfriend's home drunk with the loaded gun. He was disarmed and arrested by the police.
When he was arrested for possession of the illegal firearm in April, he admitted it was the same gun he had at Vic's Bar last year.
While noting that he had accepted that he initially lied to the court, the presiding judge stated that he had wasted the court's time and resources and, as a result, lost any benefits he would have received for admission to the first offense.
On Wednesday, he was sentenced to nine years for the offenses in both December and April.
