(CMR) A man died following a single-vehicle collision in Prospect today. Police reports are that just before 1:30 PM, they and other emergency services were dispatched to Mangrove Avenue in the Prospect area to a single-vehicle collision involving a black Honda motor car.
When officers arrived at the location, they saw that the vehicle had collided with a fence column and the male driver, who is believed to be the only occupant in the vehicle, was still inside. Both Emergency Medical Services and the Cayman Islands Fire Service attended and assisted with extracting the driver from the vehicle.
CMR sources shared that the man was involved in an altercation and was assaulted in the head shortly before he got into his vehicle and drove away. He reportedly became fearful after seeing the police approaching and sped away.
The man showed no signs of life at the scene. He was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
Mangrove Drive, in the vicinity of the collision, will be closed while officers carry out on-scene investigations. The RCIPS apologizes for any inconvenience caused.
Investigators from the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit are currently investigating this incident and are seeking witnesses to come forward and provide information about how the collision took place.
