(CMR) Eric Brian Williams Soto, the man arrested in a police chase on Friday, was denied bail when he appeared in court on Monday, 2 May. He is expected to return to court on 5 May.
Williams Soto (20), of Bodden Town, was arrested on Friday night, 29 April, after being stopped in a vehicle on Yacht Drive.
Police said as the vehicle came to a halt, two male occupants absconded on foot. Police apprehended and arrested Williams Soto following a chase.
The police are still seeking the other man, who was identified as Justin Kyle Jackson. Police said he was armed when he evaded them.
One firearm was recovered from the vehicle. The vehicle, a white Toyota Yaris, was recovered by police to be examined for forensic evidence.
Williams Soto has been formally charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of unlicensed firearm ammunition in relation to the incident.
Soto Williams claimed to have been on the way to visit his grandmother when he offered Jackson a ride in the rented vehicle. However, when the police stopped the car, it was reportedly being driven by Jackson.
Williams Soto said he ran when the police stopped the vehicle because the police were firing shots, and he was afraid of being hit.
Attorney Amelia Fosuhene represents Williams Soto.
