(CMR) The vast majority of government teachers heading home for the Christmas break are Caribbean teachers some exclusive information has revealed.
It was shared earlier that the education ministry decided to make some changes to the school calendar in order to accommodate teachers traveling for the Christmas holiday break. The break has been extended by two weeks in order to accommodate the travel time which would include a period of quarantine as well.
Now CMR can confirm that a breakdown provided exclusively to us shows that 59 of the 84 teachers traveling during the Christmas holidays are from the Caribbean region with 53 of those being teachers from Jamaica. Cayman Airways had five flights scheduled to Jamaica for the month of December and four flights for the same route in January.
Only six teachers are traveling to the United Kingdom and 18 to the United States.
The government has not shared what the deadline is for teachers to return to the island and what will the contingency plan be if any of the returning teachers have to remain in quarantine after testing positive for Covid-19.
