(CMR) Kirk Supermarket has decided to temporarily close after three staff members have tested positive COVID-19. CMR was informed earlier this evening that a team leader in the juice department and at least one other person in the produce department has tested positive yesterday and today for the coronavirus.
Exclusive CMR sources confirm that so far two females and one male worker have tested positive. Ironically, one female employee who tested positive in the produce department did not wish to return to work after hearing of the initial results of the team leader. However, she was instructed to return to work today before her results were known.
In fact, we reached out to the manager at Kirk Market after multiple employees complained that they were afraid to return to work and were being told they had no option and if the information leaked out there would be consequences. An email was sent earlier this evening to management but no response was sent.
Employees started to be mass tested earlier this week.
Shortly later Kirk Market made the following statement:
Kirk Market wishes to advise the public that the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority has informed us that three (3) of our team members have tested positive for COVID-19. We are in contact with the affected team members who are all asymptomatic. They have our full support, and we wish them all the best in their recovery.
As part of our COVID Emergency Response Plan, Kirk Market will be closed to the public on Saturday 9th May to conduct additional stringent sanitation and deep-cleaning procedures for the entire store.
Meticulous contact tracing has been carried out to track down every colleague who has been in sustained or adjacent contact with the affected team-members. All close-contacts have been tested and excluded from work while we await their results from the HSA as they continue testing of all frontline workers throughout the island.
The safety of our team members and customers remains our highest priority, regardless of the challenging times we now face. Please know that we are monitoring the COVID-19 situation very closely, while actively collaborating with the Health Services Authority and following all recommended guidelines.
Our store will re-open on Monday 11th, May.
We appreciate your understanding and co-operation during this time.
Ironically on Friday Kirk and Fosters were implementing a mandatory mask policy for customers who grocery shop at their facility.
