Job adverts continue to fuel frustration in the local community as persons claim that the jobs are purposely designed to discourage local applicants. This comes at a time with Caymanians continue to struggle to find work despite almost half of the workforce being imported labour.
In two glaring jobs adverts taken recently from the local newspaper and sent to Cayman Marl Road; readers have questioned the amount of work, experience and qualifications required for what appears to be an entry level salary.
One job for a full-time care-taker requires the successful applicant to care for two persons with dementia and has additional duties including:
-
Cooking
-
Cleaning
-
24/7 availability including holidays
-
International driving license
The person would be paid CI$1,300 before any statutory deductions are made.
Another vacancy has 4 titles in the job title and has a lengthy list of requirements including the applicant having both a bachelors and masters degree along with other qualifications. The post requires more than 20 years experience but yet only pays CI$2,000 per month.
This practice of making job descriptions overly cumbersome for a small salary is nothing new and seen by many as a tactic to discourage any local applicants from applying for the position. The description is so lengthy that it could not be viewed properly in the combined photo above.
Many have called for the government to undertake a greater review of these types of adverts.
