(CMR) The United States Embassy located in Jamaica has confirmed that outgoing flights will resume Tuesday, June 2 from the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. Jamaicans in the United States are being told to prepare to be able to return home soon. However, no word on when Jamaicans in Cayman can expect to be able to turn.
The US Embassy announcement was made earlier on Friday on their Twitter page. Earlier today it was confirmed that Jamaica would be seeking to have a phased re-opening of its borders. Audrey Marks, Jamaican ambassador to the United States has told Jamaicas in the USA that it could be a matter of days before they can return home.
There have been many persons abroad expressing their frustrations at being unable to return to Jamaica during the COVID-19 shutdown. One charter flight has been confirmed out of Florida but no specific details are yet available. This flight is restricted for “persons with the most urgent situation”.
According to the US Embassy, American Airlines will operate daily flights from Kingston to Miami as well as flights from Montego Bay to Miami and Charlotte starting June 4. United Airlines will be operating weekly Saturday flights from Montego Bay to New Jersey starting on June 6.
In addition, Delta will operate flights from Kingston to Atlanta on Mondays and Thursdays starting June 8; Air Canada will operate flights from Kingston to Toronto on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting June 2 and; British Airways will operate a special flight from Kingston to London on Wednesday, June 3, the embassy stated.
Approximately 310 British travelers will be able to return home from Jamaica on Wednesday's charter flight, which is the second such arrangement by the Government of the United Kingdom. The flight is scheduled to leave the Norman Manley International Airport to London Heathrow.
Jamaica's airports and seaports have been closed to incoming passenger traffic since Saturday, March 21 as part of measures to slow the spread of coronavirus on the island.
Cayman residents both in Jamaica and Jamaicans in Cayman are anxious to receive updates on their travel arrangements.

Since our borders closed on 22 March 1473 people have departed on emergency evacuation flights and 314 people have been able to return home to Cayman. Last Saturday’s flight to Manila was the 25th emergency evacuation flight to depart Owen Robert International Airport.
