(CMR) A scammer from Jamaica who targeted the elderly was captured after calling a former FBI and CIA director and his wife.

The caller had no idea William and Lynda Webster were not the typical elderly couple as William served as the director of both the CIA and FBI. He's the only person ever to have held both positions.

When the scammer called and threatened them, Mr. Webster knew precisely what to do.

They compiled evidence against the scammer and informed federal authorities, who tracked the caller to Jamaica. Later, when the scammer entered the U.S. on a trip, agents were there to arrest him.

“A scammer identified himself as David and called back repeatedly and told my husband he had won $72 million in a scam,” Mrs. Webster told Fox News.

When she told the scammer never to call back and refused to send any money, the caller became violent.

“He said he would kill me, kill my husband, he was going to burn our house down and that our white brick house would look lovely with the brains of my head on the wall,” Lynda said.

According to the FBI's Elder Fraud Report, in 2021, there were just over 90,000, totaling losses of over a billion dollars. This number is up by 74% since 2020.

The couple told Fox News that everyone needs to do their part to help prevent these incidents from happening.

“You don't want to spy on mom and dad and grandpa, but you kind of have to. You have to listen to the other end of the phone, peek at the mail and the checkbook occasionally,” Mrs. Webster said.
