(CMR) Jamaica Labour Party local government candidate/representative for Point Hill, St Catherine Omar Francis, was killed in a car crash Monday morning, 13 June, in St Catherine, Jamaica.
Francis was alone in the vehicle and was reportedly on his way home when he lost control of the SUV, crashing into a concrete structure along the side of the road.
Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness said, “The tragic news of the passing of Jamaica Labour Party's Councilor/caretaker for the Point Hill Division, Omar Francis, has left me feeling deep sadness this morning.”
Francis was a special assistant to Minister of Health Dr. Christopher Tufton and was a Vice President of Generation 2000 (G2K), a JLP youth body. Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton. expressed sadness at the news of the death of the young politician.
“No words. Sadness… A short life, but you lived true to your convictions. We will continue the journey and always remember the role you played,” he stated.
Francis replaced the previous political representative, Wesley Suckoo, who died in December 2019. He leaves behind two young children, including a 4-year-old daughter.
