(CMR) A Jamaican couple living in New York City was killed in a hit-and-run accident less than two blocks from their home on New Year's Day.
Thelma Reid (60) and her husband Donovan Gibbon (57) were heading to work in a blue Nissan Rogue on Ocean Crest Boulevard when a gray Dodge Ram traveling at high speed slammed into their car at about 5 a.m.
Both Reid, who was driving, and Gibbon, in the passenger seat, were pinned in the sedan.
Reid and Gibbon were found unconscious and unresponsive with injuries to their head and body. They were rushed to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The driver of the Dodge reportedly left the scene of the accident on foot. A 37-year-old man who was a passenger in the truck suffered lacerations to the head and was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.
Another passenger who tried to interfere with police investigations was taken into custody and charged with obstruction of governmental administration and disorderly conduct.
Gibbon and Reid, who have been married since 2013, worked at LSG Sky Chef’s catering company at John F. Kennedy Airport.
