(CMR) A Jamaican choreographer is suing megastar couple, Jay-Z and Beyonce Carter for the use of her voice on the couples 2018 album, “Everything Is Love”.
Dr. L’Antoinette Stines in a suit filed in the United States District Court Central District of California alleges that the couple used her voice without her permission on the single “Black Effect”.
Stines, a renowned choreographer, explained that she was sought after by Jay-Z and Beyonce in March 2018 to provide dancers for a video promoting their upcoming tour.
According to Stines, on the day she showed up to film the video she was told she “must sign” an agreement in order to participate.
“When Dr. Stines inquired into the terms of the agreement, she was told that the agreement ‘was just a standard document that everyone had to sign,'” read the suit.
The lawsuit further states that after providing the dancers, Stines was asked by the couple to record her views on love.
Stines' suit said that the recording was to be used for “promotional purposes”.
Stines is seeking writer's credit for the single and to be compensated for copyright infringement.
