(CMR) Incarcerated Jamaican Entertainer, Adidja Palmer, known more by his stage name, Vybz Kartel, is expected to know his fate come Friday. The entertainer was on April 3, 2014, sentenced to life in prison in connection with the beating death of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams three years earlier.
The entertainer who has appealed the case, is expected to hear a verdict from the Appeal Court on Friday, April 3 at approximately 9:00 a.m. The verdict is expected to be handed down by phone.
According to a source close to CMR, lawyers working on the case feel they have a chance of winning the appeal on the basis of prosecutorial misconduct. They noted that the Director of Public Prosecution herself intervened in the case and encouraged the judge to allow a controversial juror to sit and deliberate in the matter.
Irrespective of the outcome, which includes possibilities such as a retrial ordered, an acquittal entered, the appeal dismissed among other options, lawyers noted that they would be fighting to free the entertainer. The source noted if entertainer's lawyers were unsuccessful, they would be taking their appeal to the Privy Council.
The Privy Council is the court of final appeal for Jamaica.
