(CMR) Ilsa “Lilly” Archibold is depending on money raised through a GoFundMe Fundraiser to start treatment for cancer at the Cleveland Clinic next week. She has been diagnosed with Stage 1 B2 Adenocarcinoma cervix cancer and needs to raise at least £8,000 to start treatment.
Mrs. Archibold said she is covered under her husband's family insurance; however, it only covers 80 percent of the cost of treatment. The hospital requires an upfront deposit for treatment to start and her first appointment is 21 June.
“My husband has family health insurance; however, it only covers 80%, excluding accommodation, transportation, special foods, etc. The Cayman Islands Cancer Society is willing to help unless they have figures to be approved, which I cannot get until I am in the United States,” she explained.
“The hospital requires an upfront deposit which I do not have as I am unemployed, and my husband's salary is the only source of income. In addition, we still have other bills to be paid in Cayman,” Mrs Archibold added.
Despite her circumstances, Mrs. Archibold remains optimistic, holding onto Philippians 4:13. She shared how this journey started for her.
“On May 24th, 2021, I got a pap smear done, and the results came back abnormal; my doctor advised me that I would need a biopsy on June 23rd, 2021. On June 29th, I received a call from my doctor, who requested my husband and I to meet with her in person about the results. I immediately had a feeling that this was not going to be good news,” she recalled how this dreaded journey started.
“As soon as we walked into the doctor's office, she said, ‘I'm sorry.' I started to cry and asked if I had cancer. She responded, ‘No worries, we will do a surgery, and everything will be alright.' On August 4th, 2021, I had a Radical Hysterectomy,” Mrs. Archibold added.
She had a follow-up every three months; however, since March 2022, she said she started developing more pain, fatigue, and dizziness. A CT scan revealed a tissue thickening on the left side of her pelvis and she was directed to the United States for further treatment.
