(CMR) Five shipping containers full of humanitarian donations were on the George Town port Thursday morning for transport to the residents of Guanaja, Honduras. Volunteers in Cayman have been collecting donations for almost three weeks to assist victims of the recent fire that ravished part of the Bay Islands on October 2.
CMR was on location along with some volunteers and members of the PACT government to participate in the final leg before the two-day voyage commenced. The ship arrived early Thursday morning and had to be inspected and cleared by CBC agents before being loaded with the five containers destined for Guanaja.
Volunteers included a large cross-section of individuals from business owners to various people across the island. Sherry-Ann Smith organized the efforts from her home in Prospect where donations were collected, sorted and packed in the containers.
CBC officers secured the goods each night to ensure that there was no tampering with the containers by anyone.
Once they arrive in Honduras Pastor and attorney Cleve Bodden Dixon from the Guanaja Church of God Full Gospel Hall will be receiving the goods on behalf of the community and distributing them from there.
