(CMR) Several health workers in Bangladesh have been arrested after selling thousands of fake COVID-19 negative certificates.
In addition, a hospital owner has been charged in connection with incident after a nine-day manhunt in which he was captured in neighbouring India.
Mohammed Shahed is chairman of the Regent Group and owner of two Regent hospitals in Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka.
According to reports that have surfaced, Shahed is a member of the governing party whose health facilities were selected by the government to treat COVID-19 patients.
It is understood that the hospital collected more than 10,000 samples however did not actually have coronavirus testing equipment.
To date, Bangladesh has recorded close to 200,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, including 2,496 deaths.
