(CMR) Governor Martyn Roper hosted a group of Caymanians on Wednesday following their return from a humanitarian mission to the heavily devastated Providencia, Colombia, after the category 5 Hurricane Lota struck in November 2020.
The group was flown by Colombian Military aircraft on December 12, 2020, at the request of Colombian President Duque for their expertise in seismic and hurricane building code and construction to help with the rebuilding effort. Approximately 45,000 pounds of humanitarian aid gathered in Cayman was also flown to San Andres.
“It was humbling to hear about their experience and efforts. A further example of the Cayman Islands stepping up to support our neighbors in the Caribbean at a time of need,” Governor Roper said.
