(CMR) The Cayman Islands Government through the Health Services Authority (HSA), the Ministry of Health & Wellness, Cayman Airways Ltd., and Cayman's ARK (Acts of Random Kindness) came together to arrange emergency air transport of a young child for advanced medical care in Jamaica.
The child, who reportedly developed complications due to COVID-19, and family were transported via a dedicated Cayman Airways flight. They were supported by a medical team from the HSA on their travel.
HSA Medical Director Dr. Delroy Jefferson said that although the patient was stable, a medical team from HSA would have accompanied the patient and family during transit to provide continuous care and transfer to the clinical team in Jamaica.
Hon. Premier Wayne Panton, on behalf of the Cayman Islands Government, sent best wishes to the pediatric patient and their family.
“It is testament to our strong sense of community that we were able to come together – public, private and civic society – to quickly to meet the needs of this young patient and their family. We will keep them in our thoughts during their travels and pray for the child’s full recovery,” he stated.
“We are pleased to have the community pull together in just two days to raise funds in order to support the air transport and continued medical care for this child,” stated Tara Nielsen, Director, Cayman's ARK. “This is a further demonstration of the true Cayman Kindness that makes our community so unique.”
