(CMR) CMR has received information today that the Cayman Islands Government has apparently changed its marketing company for the ongoing cruise berthing campaign.
Sources close to the matter indicate that the $5,000 monthly contract with Fountainhead has not been renewed. Instead, Kelly Holdings will now be spearheading the marketing campaign. There is no indication why the change was undertaken or if the contract amount will be the same.
The government initially entered into a six-month agreement for Fountainhead to develop and run the ‘Support Our Tourism' campaign. Thus far they have spent over $130,000 of public funds on marketing to get the public to support the port and cruise berthing capital project.
Suggested estimates are that the government is prepared to spend some $600,000 on the marketing campaign leading up to the referendum to ensure that voters vote in favor of the port and cruise berthing capital project. There is no indication if this fee includes estimates to actually hold the referendum as well.
The pro-port campaign by government includes running advertisements on radio, TV, cinema, print newspapers, online news sites and social media according to a previous FOI.
