Numerous social media posts and WhatsApp messages are accusing Foster's Food Fair (FFF), Cayman's largest chain of grocery stores, of price gouging.
Despite these claims, FFF Managing Director, Woody Foster, assures that the public that these posts are erroneous and no prices have been increased as a result of the pending storm and heightened demand for grocery supplies.
To address the issue and dispel the incorrect information, Foster is doing a media campaign this morning on Rooster 101.9, Radio Cayman and Z99.
Foster unequivocally stated, “We have never and will never price gouge. We love this country and our fellow countrymen, wherever they are from, and will never ever take advantage of any them in any situation.”
In fact, Foster not only confirmed that this is the regular price but stated that their sister whole store, Price Righted has Aquafina Water for $9.99 and that is likely where the confusion is centered. “I'm saddened that people jump to conclusions without first verifying the facts – but this has always been the price at our grocery store at regular retail pricing. Priced Right is a different model and is able to offer better pricing on goods”.
CMR was able to obtain independent photo verification that FFF has not marked up the price. The per-unit price is .73 cents X 24 in a case. Notice the date highlighted in the photo was from earlier this year. Normally, the case is offered at a 10% discount provided there are no other special offers that apply.
In other news, FF continues to stock up and ensure that customers have everything they need.
Foster's has 7 locations around the island and has been in business since 1980. Starting with its flagship store at the Airport Center in December of that year, Foster’s has built a company based on corporate, community and family values.
According to their website “Foster’s Food Fair IGA is committed to providing our customers with a wide selection of products that cater to the diverse tastes and cultures, the distinct dietary needs of people and all the other specialty items that one may look for in a grocery chain.”
