(CMR) The former head of the RCIPS Traffic Management Unit, Inspector Adrian Barnett (53), has been charged with multiple offenses connected to a hit and run incident in June 2017.
At the time of the incident he was driving his personal vehicle and rear ended a Land Rover and left the scene of the accident. He was tracked down and arrested 3 days after the incident.
Barnett appeared in court and has been charged with dangerous driving, driving whilst impaired, leaving the scene of an accident, and misleading the police. He is bailed to return to courts on 8 January.
Barnett was an advocate of safer driving and a long service awardee. In the past he was gravely concerned about poor driving on the roads and implemented a road safety campaign through education and enforcement and commented that:
A number of factors contribute to this troubling statistic,” said Inspector Adrian Barnett, Head of the RCIPS Traffic Management Unit. “But the fact is that drinking and driving, speeding, and the general failure of drivers to pay adequate attention to what they’re doing continue to be the main causes of fatal accidents.
