(CMR) Rumors are circulating heavily that the National Roads Authority (NRA) Managing Director, Paul Parchment, has been suspended as of yesterday.
CMR has been reliably informed that he has been placed on suspended leave after some potential misuse of NRA government equipment for personal use. Whilst government nor the NRA board have made any public statements on the matter we know for certain that he is out office today and field staff are being questioned by various persons including someone from credit union, anti-corruption staff and the prison.
We further understand the investigation was sparked after some photos were leaked to a local politician and the board of directors.
Ironically CMR has received numerous complaints for the past year about the management at the NRA and one source shared:
“This has got to be the most unprofessional government agency and I cannot believe that the board turns a blind eye and politicians ignore everything that is happening here.”
Allegations from unfair workplace treatment to sexual harassment and favoritism have been reported.
The Board of Directors of the National Roads Authority (NRA) appointed Mr. Paul Parchment to the post of Managing Director on a 3-year contract in August 2014. The position had been vacant since late 2012 from Edward Howard, who had been in the post since late June 2012, after Managing Director Bryan Tomlinson’s employment with the authority ended.
When Mr. Howard was acting managing director, Mr. Parchment became acting deputy managing director.
Mr Parchment joined the Public Works Department in 1988 as an Engineering Aide. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Florida A&M and a master’s in road management and engineering from the University of Birmingham.
The National Roads Authority was created on 1 July 2004 by the National Roads Authority Law (2004). The NRA was created to administer, manage, control, develop and maintain the Islands' public roads and related facilities, such as signals, stormwater facilities, roadway lighting, roadway directional signage, etc.
This is a developing story and as CMR is able to confirm more details we will provide updates on this matter.
