(CMR) Former West Bay politician, Rolston Anglin (48), was arrested on Tuesday evening for failing to provide a specimen to a police officer after having a single vehicular accident on West Bay Road in the vicinity of the Cost U Less at around 10:00 pm.
CMR spoke to Anglin and he explained he was unable to give a breathalyzer specimen at the scene because of a head injury he sustained. He had also taken a homemade concoction of Ferrol and SSS Tonic which he believes contributed to his drowsy state at the time. Anglin also admitted to suffering from sleep apnea which could also account for his drowsiness. However, he insists that he was not intoxicated and that he merely wanted to wait for his lawyer's advice before providing the specimen. Rolston insisted that:
“I was willing but I wanted a lawyer present. I did not refuse a specimen without a lawyer being present.”
Anglin was transported to the hospital after his release from the Fairbanks booking facility as he sustained a head injury and need to be fully examined by a physician. He understand a CT scan before being given the all-clear.
Anglin has two previous convictions for DUI. Ironically back in 2014, Anglin had an accident in the vicinity of the Fidelity Financial Centre roundabout. The previous conviction was in May 2012. Both times he was fined and disqualified from driving.
At the time his lawyer submitted to the Court a letter from his client’s physician. The letter indicated that Anglin had been diagnosed in 2012 with sleep apnea.
Anglin is a former three-term West Bay MLA that served from 2000-2013 and served as Deputy Premier and Minister of Education, Financial Services & Employment from 2012-2013. He is also a certified public accountant, working as an auditor in Cayman and New York. He currently owns his own accounting practice.
