(CMR) Adrian Barnett, the 54-year old former head of the RCIPS traffic unit has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while impaired and leaving the scene of an accident this morning in court.
An additional charge of misleading police was dropped by the prosecution. The charges stem from an incident last June off Linford Pierson Highway while he was off duty and driving a white Pontiac SUV. Despite no one being hurt Barnett left the scene and was eventually located by the police some days later. He was subsequently charged in December.
Initially on required leave after his arrest Barnett retired in December. He is scheduled to appear back in court on Wednesday for sentencing and handed in his license to the court today.
