(CMR) The Cayman Islands Regiment has completed the construction of 61 beds and partitions preparing for potential COVID-19 patients if necessary at the Family Life Centre. The project was successfully completed after a joint agency collaboration. The hospital is designed to assist with the overflow of mild to moderate patients. The facility would only be used if all of the other available hospitals are filled to capacity.
The work was carried out in conjunction with Public Works, Zebra Electrical, the Health Services Authority, Cayman Prepared and Electra-Tech.
It took two days to convert the Family Life Centre off Walker's Road into this facility which will provide a huge boast to the Covid resilience plans in the community. More ambulant patients have a separate patient care section with about 11 beds that are closer to the nurses' stations. As an infectious disease facility that is equipped with proper air systems.
