(CMR) The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recommended emergency approval for the Pfizer-BioNTech Coronavirus vaccine .
The FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC)overwhelmingly endorsed the vaccine at a meeting on Thursday (December 10)
The 23 member panel determined that the vaccine’s benefits outweighed any potential harm, kick starting the process that is expected to result in the finalization and issuance of an emergency use authorization.
“The agency has also notified the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Operation Warp Speed, so they can execute their plans for timely vaccine distribution,”said FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn, in a statement on the matter.
The Pfizer vaccine has already been approved for public use in the UK, Canada and Saudi Arabia.
