(CMR) For the past several days a fake WhatsApp message has been circulating around the island.
CMR reached out to the Collector of Customs, Charles Clifford to confirm the story was not about the Cayman Islands. He informed us that this particular message has been circulating from July this year and seems to have originated in Jamaica. There was apparently a story in the Jamaican media about it earlier this year. However, CMR can confirm that the message actually originated in Nigeria and is about one of their companies there.
The company mentioned in the message, “Dana” issued a press release on July 3rd stating that the claims were fake. Dana Group has been in Nigeria for over 45 years contributing positively to the Nigerian economy with quality products in the areas of Aviation, Steel, Manufacturing, Automobile, Banking, Real Estate, Health, and Beverage, just to mention a few.
It explained that Dana Group as a proudly Nigerian brand stopped the importation of rice in 2015 in line with the desires and commitment of both the outgoing and incoming administrations to grow local capacity for quality rice production in Nigeria.
Nonetheless, this message despite stating that it relates to Cayman does not.
