(CMR) 63-year-old Elvis McKeever appeared in Grand Court on Friday afternoon before Judge Cheryll Richard for a mention. He pleaded not guilty to two offenses under The Information and Communications Technology Authority (ICTA) Act.
He joined the proceedings via Zoom link from his home in Cayman Brac.
McKeever is charged with (1) Dangerous transmission contrary to section 88 of the ICTA law for inciting civil unrest and (2) Using an ICT network to service to defraud, abuse, annoy, threaten or harass the Chief Justice, head of the Office of Public Prosecution (and other members of the DPP's office) and police officers.
The accusations arise out of a live stream video he placed on his Facebook page back on November 2, 2021. A trial date has been set for June 20, 2022 and is estimated for 4 to 5 days. The jduget made it clear the defendant is required to appear in person for the trial.
A case management hearing is set for April 28 at 4:15pm..
