UPDATE: The police have confirmed that a 63-year-old Cayman Brac man was arrested on Wednesday on was arrested on suspicion of harassment alarm & distress, misuse of ICT, and threats to kill. The arrest is in relation to a threatening video that was posted on social media.
The man was to be transported to Grand Cayman yesterday, however, he experienced medical difficulties prior to his departure and was taken to hospital on Cayman Brac for treatment. He remains in Cayman Brac and has subsequently been bailed as inquiries continue.
(CMR) Political candidate and ganja enthusiast Elvis McKeever (63) was arrested late Wednesday afternoon in Cayman Brac after making serious threats on a social live stream video on November 2 where he said that blood would run in the streets of the Cayman Islands. His video soon went viral with clips of it being widely shared on social media and WhatsApp.
CMR understands that he was first arrested at his liquor store in Island Man Rum Shop in Watering Place, Cayman Brac before being taken to his home. He is expected to be transported to Grand Cayman and was observed at the airport earlier but CMR understands he had to be rushed to the hospital after he was arrested.
The nature of the threats includes threats against the Chief Justice of the Cayman Islands Judiciary, the Attorney General, former premier Alden McLaughlin and “all unna politicians”.
The 9:43 video started out discussing the 28-year-old Jamaican lady who was arrested and charged after coming into the Cayman Islands with a COVID-19 positive test result. He compared her to the now infamous Ramjeet case.
He then referred to senior members of the judiciary which he claims is “full of Jamaicans”. He also said that blood would run straight in the streets of the Cayman Islands noting that he is ready to die if the woman does not go to prison.
He advocated the killing of all officers and prosecutors involved in quarantine case. He also made comments about the governor and others not being able to live in peace and that we need a revolution and that he “is a leader and all I need is some followers”.
He went on to state that all Jamaicans must be removed from the DPP's office and tempted the police to arrest him.
CMR understands that armed police arrived and took McKeever away. It is believed he will be transported to Grand Cayman shortly.
McKeever, a candidate in the 2021 general election has been a long-time advocate for the legalization of marijuana. He ran against education minister Julianna O'Connor-Conolly. McKeever is known to have a very colorful personality and added a certain degree of excitement to the political race in Cayman Brac. He is a video poster that is known to often be shirtless and use profanity in his videos.
McKeever is currently on probation for another recent drug conviction.
