(CMR) An elderly man was assaulted in George Town in the early morning hours of Monday in the vicinity of Elizabethan Square as he made his way home.
Early reports are that the 65-year-old was walking behind Eden House in Elizabethan Square heading towards Claude Hill Road where he lives when he was attacked from behind. His mobile phone and wallet containing around $12 were taken from him.
The incident occurred around 12:00 – 1:00 a.m. when he was walking home from a local bar off Shedden Road and taking a shortcut to get home. It is believed the assailant ran in the vicinity of One Capital Place.
However, during the attack, he sustained multiple injuries that required him to be in the hospital overnight. He was able to walk to the police station after the attack and they were then able to take him to the hospital.
He received injuries to the back of the head, face and hands. After resting at home for a few hours this morning he began coughing up blood and is being taken back to the hospital. His family fears he may have some internal injuries that may not have initially been caught.
A nurse dropped him home this morning as he was unable to make contact with his family after his simple flashlight phone was stolen. The attacker appears to have attempted to tamper with the security camera in the area.
The family is asking anyone that might find a discarded wallet to turn it into the police.
Anyone with information on this assault is encouraged to contact the police.
