(CMR) There was a motor vehicle accident last night on High Road Road in East End that has left two persons dead.
Police arrived on the scene shortly after 3:00 am to find 2 persons dead. CMR understands the incident occurred about half an hour before and it is believed a male and female are dead.
It appears the small car may have hit a larger commercial truck. CMR sources believe the persons are from Jamaica. We have received further information that the male is 25-years-old and is from Highgate, St. Mary, Jamaica.
Traffic delays this morning continue as police have the road blocked off. Persons are being diverted to Queen's Highway. The Ministry of Health/DEH confirmed that the vehicle involved as one of their trucks in a statement later in the day. Their driver was uninjured.
“The Department of Environmental Health confirms that one of its Vehicles was involved in the Fatal Accident early Saturday morning (7 September 2019) in East End, which was previously Reported by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS).”
The Department is assisting the RCIPS with their inquiry and will make no further comment while the investigation is ongoing.
The Ministry of Health and the Department of Environmental Health extend condolences to the families of the deceased.
CMR understand that this same DEH driver was involved in another collision on Tuesday where that vehicle was said to be totaled.
This is a developing story and will be updated once more information is available.
