(CMR) The Department of Vehicle and Drivers' Licensing (DVDL) had a busy first day when it re-opened Monday serving over 215 customers according to preliminary numbers provided by the DVDL. Some customers came prepared for a long wait with umbrellas.
The vast majority of transactions were vehicle transfer which accounted for some 132 customers. There were also 55 vehicle transfers, 37 new vehicles were registered with 15 learner's licenses renewed. 22 duplicate coupons were also processed by the DVDL staff.
CMR received information that customers had staked out the location from 5:00 am trying to beat the long lines. However, the lines were long and patience started wearing thin as the day progressed.
Physical distancing requirements have resulted in DVDL serving significantly fewer customers when compared with a “normal day” which would result in up to/over 450 customers being served. The DVDL reminded people that many options are available via the e-services online options and they could avoid the lengthy wait.
