(CMR) Leader of the Progressive Labour Party (PLP), David Burt, has been returned to power in what is being described as a landslide victory.
Bermudians went to the polls on October 1 for the general elections, the PLP who entered the polls having a 25-11 majority, held on to all their seats, increasing their margin by 5 more seats over the One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) .
Following the victory at the polls, Burt's supporters cheered him on as he appeared at the Alaska Hall on Court Street.
In his address to supporters Burt said now was a time for the country to unite noting that he planned to serve for all Bermudians.
“We have an incredibly difficult road ahead for this country and it is going to require us all to work together, whether we be Government, Opposition, business, unions and citizens.” he said
“I now say that it is time for us to put aside our red, our yellow and our green — our historical divisions — and come together as one people, one Bermuda, to recover our economy and to build a more inclusive economy that benefits all,” he added.
Bermuda's 2020 general elections saw the lowest turnout in decades with roughly 56 per cent of voters coming out to vote.
