(CMR) Jamaican dancehall artiste Merciless was found dead Tuesday evening at a motel in Kingston, Jamaica.
His cause of death is not known; however, foul play is not suspected. He was reportedly found dead by his driver and motel staff. According to a local news report, the driver dropped him off at the motel but did not speak to him all day Tuesday. When he went to pick him up Tuesday evening, he did not get an answer. The driver gained access to the room with the help of staff members, and the artiste was found dead.
Merciless, whose birth name is Leonard Bartley, was born on 1 July 1971 in Chapelton, Clarendon, Jamaica. He first found success performing with sound systems, making his recording début in 1994 with “Lend Out Mi Mercy,” which was a hit in Jamaica. Like several other dancehall stars, he adopted ‘conscious' lyrical content in the late 1990s.
