Credit Union places employee on unpaid leave over covid policy non-compliance

Employee placed on unpaid leave

(CMR) The Cayman Islands Credit Union has placed a worker on unpaid leave after they refused to follow the organization's COVID-19 Policy and provide a medical exemption letter or otherwise get vaccinated. It appears the employee did not provide a completed vaccine certificate or a PCR test and has therefore been placed on immediate leave.

It made reference to the respective section 4 of the policy which encourages all employees to get vaccinated by October 25 or be subjected to weekly PCR testing. The PCR testing must be submitted each Monday morning at 9:00 am to the HR Department and must be taken within 72 hours. Employes are responsible for the associated testing cost.

The policy further states that if a person is unable to provide a PCR test each Monday they will not be permitted into the building. Any non-compliant person would then be placed on unpaid leave until a negative PCR test is provided. It appears that this person is the first to not comply and faced the consequences two days after the policy went into effect.

The letter dated this morning has been sent to CMR by multiple individuals and has since gone viral.

Employee placed on unpaid leave

CMR reached out for comment from the management at the Credit Union and they shared that a statement will be forthcoming shortly. This story will be updated once it's available.
