Tashika Mothen and Daniella Tibbetts have both been acquitted of all charges against them including attempted murder in what the DPP's office presented as a “fued-fueled gang related” incident by a jury.
The jury found the women not guilty of all counts of the incident that took place in February. Tashika Mothen took the stand in her defence last week and was acquitted of a list of charges, from threats to kill to attempted murder. Prosecutors had painted her as a co-conspirator alongside her husband in the violent incident but had failed to prove their case.
The two male defendants were also found not guilty on the more serious charges of attempted murder. Malik Mothen was convicted of two counts of grievous bodily harm for armed robbery. Kashwayne Hewitt was also convicted of GBH. He plead guilty earlier to the possession of an unlicensed firearm charge.
Both men were remanded and will be sentenced later today and the women were discharged.
A jury began deliberating on Tuesday, around 3:00 in the afternoon, in the Fete violent feud shooting case after visiting judge, Justice Roger Chapple, spent about four hours summarizing the law and the evidence.
Tashika Mothen spoke to Cayman Marl Road exclusively and said:
I wish to thank my lawyers Icah Peart and Amelia Fosuhene from Brady's worked hard to prove my innocence. The police and prosecution chose to ignore the real facts in this case and worked on flawed facts to try to convict me of something I did not do. I thank God the jury and my lawyers for making sure that truth prevailed
Mothen was on remand for 5 months pending the trial which was delayed several times. The crown fought hard to have her remain in jail whilst pregnant but her lawyers fought for her to be given bail. She remained on house arrest and was wearing an ankle monitor.
Mothen is a new mother and is hopeful to be able to focus her time and energy now on her family.
UPDATE: TUESDAY December 13, 2017
Malik Mothen from West Bay has been sentenced to 13 years in jail and his co-defendant, Kashwayne Hewitt, a Jamaican national, received a 12 year term for a violent attack and shooting outside the Fete nightclub in February.
