(CMR) Caribbean Utilities Company Limited has filed suit in the Grand Court against Little Darlings Limited claiming CI$54,150.43 was owed as of July 6th.
The lawsuit claims that company had three accounts located at it's Bodden Place premises that covered the number of units occupied by the retail business since 2001. At some stage the defendant fell into arrears on the account the sum accrued to that amount. The document further claims that in April 2016 they were promised payment from a matrimonial settlement;
“however, despite this undertaking, the debt remains due and owing.”
CUC seeks the principle about of CI$54,150.43 plus interests and court costs.
It is unusual to hear of the local utilizes provider suing someone in the Grand Court for monies owed. CMR could only find one other such filing in January 2015 for CI$138, 395.75 against a Mr. Neville Faulknor, a former electrical inspector, who was later convicted of stealing electricity from the electrical provider.
