UPDATE:
Levi Ambrose Powell, 28, and Toria Angella Terry, 27, have been given suspended sentences after pleading guilty to two counts of handling stolen goods.
(CMR) Levi Ambrose Powell (27) and Toria Angella Terry (28) both made an eleventh-hour guilty plea in Grand Court earlier this week before their case was set to begin for handling stolen goods.
The pair were arrested around December 17, 2018, after going to the local pawn shop, CashWiz, with stolen goods. We reported at the time that Terry was arrested after attempting to pawn the goods from a house burglary.
The items included a Breitling Avenger watch and diamond earrings valued at over US$8,500. Terry had initially denied any knowledge that the goods were stolen and had told her friends that Powell had conned her into helping him. She claims, on a whim, he asked her to pawn the goods because he did not have his ID on him at the pawnshop. She claims she believed his story and that the times belonged to him and he needed the money for rent.
After her statement, police quickly arrested Powell and charged both in the matter.
On Monday, before the jury selection was to begin, both parties changed their not guilty pleas to guilty and will return to court on November 11, 2019, for sentencing.
Powell remains in custody, and Terry's bail was extended until sentencing.
