(CMR) Champion House Restaurant continues to deal with the court on how to pay back $177,000 in unpaid employee pension contributions.
These are charges the company admits to not paying for almost 10 years. The company has now been in court for 10 years for failing to pay contributions for 32 employees between 1999 and 2008.
The matter was adjourned on Monday as Magistrate Valdis Foldats contemplated the possibility of disposing of company assets in order to satisfy the debt.
At last month's hearing, Magistrate Valdis Foldats inquired about company assets that could be liquidated. Both Crown counsel Greg Walcolm and defense attorney Graham Hampson agreed that an assessment should be undertaken. It was suggested earlier that the Financial Crime Unit may be able to assist with an appraisal; however, due to staff shortages, they declined.
The matter has been adjoined again until November 15 so that a certificate of an accountant can be provided to the court. It is hopeful this will present a true position of Champion House's financial position.
