(CMR) A cop was killed in Jamaica on Saturday night (November 7) while trying to make an arrest at a late evening party.
Reports from local media are that the cop, who has since been identified as Kirkland Plummer, was killed at around 9:00 p.m.
It is understood that he was on duty attempting to carry out an arrest when he was killed at a social event, said to be in breach of COVID-19 regulations.
Early Sunday morning Prime Minister Andrew Holness took to social media to denounce the killing of Plummer who was a father of three, noting that such attacks should be viewed as an attack on the state.
“I am immensely saddened by the shooting death of Constable Kirkland Plummer. His 3 children have been robbed of their father and his wife has been robbed of her husband,” said Holness in a post on social media.
“The killing of law enforcement officers while in the lawful conduct of their duty must be considered an attack on the State, an attack on our security and our sensibilities. Justice must be served, ” he added.
