(CMR) The Cayman Islands celebrated the first-ever Gay Pride Parade on Saturday afternoon with hundreds of participants parading from Seven Mile Beach to Palm Heights on West Bay Road. The sweltering summer heat did not deter parade participates which including numerous supporters along the parade route. Governor Martyn Roper, Premier Wayne Panton along with MP Barbara Conolly showed their support for the LGBTQ community by participating in the event.
The historical event was organized by Noel Cayasso-Smith, founder of the Cayman LGBTQ Foundation. Many turned out from all walks of life to show their supports for the LGBTQ + community in various colorful outfits with the well-known rainbow colors. The festivities included a pre-party at the Bevvy on Friday evening and concluded with a brunch at XQ's on Sunday.
He shared that the success of the event was a collective effort and he is looking to a bigger better event next year.
CMR was on hand for most of the parade route live streaming the event which garnered at one point almost 700 live views on Facebook and now boast over 40,000 views. Watch the video footage here:
