(CMR) Kids returning to school will be benefiting from a school supply drive being hosted this weekend by the Community Kitchen in West Bay. Primary and high school students can stop by John Gray Memorial Church on Saturday, August 22 from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm to collect a backpack with much-needed school supplies.
This initiative is a culmination of the Community Kitchen continuing its community activity by giving back to those in need. The Community Kitchen kicked off a soup kitchen initiative in mid-May offering hot soups as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Founders, Raul and Kathy Nicholson-Coe along with their kids assisting. Raul shared that:
We didn’t want to end it without making another significant impact on the kids
He partnered with Marcia Milgate, Tami Maines and Elizabeth Chamber to put together hundreds of backpack and school supply kits. The drive will be on a first come first serve basis and is open to persons from all districts. Any child who needs a bag or some school supplies can come and collect.
The Community Kitchen has now wrapped up the soup kitchen.
