(CMR) Clement Reid Cayman Islands Port Authority Director was terminated sometime last week according to exclusive CMR sources.
The news comes six months after he was placed on leave. Reid was originally suspended in May 2018 after a damning Auditor General's report cataloged a slew of irregularities at the Port. Included in the areas of concern were the hiring and human resources practices carried out under his direction.
At the time the board issued a short statement indicated that he would be suspended for
“up to three months … in order to facilitate an internal investigation into matters allegedly concerning Mr. Reid.”
Back in August the board consulted with it's lawyers and decided to extend his suspension after a board meeting on the 16 August for an additional three months.
Then in late August four senior staff members were terminated from the Port Authority.
Clement Reid had been the Port Director of Port Authority of the Cayman Islands since 2015 and the Deputy Port Director – Operations there since 1999. He has over 17 years of experience in the maritime industry.
As Port Director, he oversees operations and capital development for this diverse seaport that is consistently ranked amongst the top five cruise destination ports in the Caribbean.
Mr. Reid serves as Chairman of the Caribbean Delegation at the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), Member of the Cruise Committee of the International Association of Port Authorities (IAPH), Member of the Port Managers Association of the Caribbean, and Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Mr. Reid graduated with a BSc in Civil Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology.
