(CMR) A children's football coach was arrested for allegedly tweeting racist abuse towards England star Marcus Rashford.
Nick Scott, 50, is accused of tweeting that the Manchester-born forward should ‘get to ya own country.' The message was posted following England's Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy at Wembley on Sunday night.
However, Scott has denied posting the tweet; he claimed his account was hacked.
Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho have faced attacks since missing their penalty kicks for England on Sunday. Twitter banned more than 1,000 posts following abusive messages aimed at Black England stars.
The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, who is also the President of the Football Association, shared an official statement denouncing the attacks on Monday.
The official statement from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s social media accounts read: “I am sickened by the racist abuse aimed at England players after last night’s match. It is totally unacceptable that players have to endure this abhorrent behavior. It must stop now, and all those involved should be held accountable. W.”
NBC News reported that seven of England's starting 11 players against Italy had a parent or grandparent born overseas, according to the U.K.'s Migration Museum. The parents of Saka, 19, are from Nigeria, and those of Sancho, 21, are from Trinidad and Tobago. Rashford, 23, has grandparents from Saint Kitts.
