(CMR) Children zero to 11 years old will take on the vaccination status of adults they are traveling with as of Thursday, 20 January, Premier Wayne Panton has announced.
This is part of the government's Phase Five border reopening plans which became effective on Thursday.
Unvaccinated children who are Caymanian or residents may be allowed to travel alone; however, unvaccinated children 0-11 who are tourists will not be allowed to travel to the Cayman Islands unaccompanied.
Children 0-4 years old will not be required to be tested, while children 5 and over will undergo the same testing regime as adults.
Premier Panton also announced that all passengers regardless of vaccination status will need a certified negative lateral flow test or PCR in order to travel to and from the sister islands.
Vaccinated residents at a residence where a visitor is quarantined, will not be required to quarantine.
“These changes I know are welcome changes for our community, but particularly welcomed by families who have returned from travel with children and are in quarantine,” Premier Panton said.
The premier also announced that isolation measures will decrease for all securely verified passengers who are traveling from a country with less than 60% vaccination rates from 10 days to seven days and all unvaccinated travelers from 14 days to 10 days.
Travellers in quarantine may exit via a certified LFT test and not a PCR test after being contacted by Travel Cayman.
Meantime, persons were reminded that they should not self-release from quarantine as this is a violation and persons can be prosecuted.
