(CMR) Local photographer, Cathy Church (74), had criminal charges against her dropped today after the police decided to withdraw the charges.
It was announced Church would no longer be facing criminal prosecution but instead would receive an adult caution after she ran into another boat in January.
The decision was originally made in July to charged Church with navigating a vessel so as to cause damage or risk of damage and committing a reckless and negligent act in relation to the collision.
Cayman Marl Road had reported in January that Church's boat had collided with the Atatude, one of Divetech's scuba boats, at the Kittiwake dive site. At the time, they shared that no one was driving the boat and she had left the wheel for a considerable amount of time.
No one was injured in the accident and there is no indication if Church will be allowed to continue operating her own vessel.
Church is well known in the local community as a photographer and environmentalist. Originally from the USA, she is a trained marine biologist and diver but entered the world of photography with her former husband via her now world-renowned studio on South Church Street, George Town. She has also written several books on underwater photography.
