CAYS supervisor arrested for desertion?

(CMR) Sources have revealed that government worker Trevone Anthony Ennis (32) has allegedly been detained by Jamaican Defense Force for deserting his post in the Jamaican military and coming to the Cayman Islands to work over 7 years ago.

Sources indicate that he may have only served two out of his six years and left his wife and kids in Jamaica to come to Cayman and has not returned during all this time to visit them. Meanwhile, Ennis began building a life in the Cayman Islands with a new woman and child. The child in the Cayman Islands is on his work permit as the child's mother works for a local grocery store and does not make a sufficient salary to carry a dependant.

Ennis has worked in the Cayman Islands since March 2015, where he worked as a security officer with Sterling Security Solutions Ltd. before briefly working for Margaritaville Hotel on West Bay Road.

In January 2018, he was hired by the Children and Youth Services Foundation (CAYS) as a youth support worker. He was then promoted to team leader in January of this year on a two-year contract. However, it is alleged that when he left the Jamaican Defense force in 2015, he did not receive the required authorization to leave the organization.

Exclusive sources indicate that he requested leave from CAYS and also a salary advance to make the trip to Jamaica. His family claims that he was there to attend the funeral of his grandfather. Ennis lives close to the west coast of Jamaica and allegedly purposely avoided that airport in an attempt to avoid detection. However, sources indicate that as soon his passport was scanned he was pulled aside and held.

CMR sources indicated that he “did not even make it back home before JDF officers arrested him.” One person shared that he was supposed to be taking a package for a friend in Jamaica and the friend has set to receive that package.

At this time he is scheduled to return on June 20. With this latest development, He has also requested an extension of leave to sort out the matter but sources close to the situation have indicated that CAYS management is closely evaluating the situation.

His family has reached out to CMR denying that any of this story is true. His sister “Sue” stated that it is a “misunderstanding” between him and the JDF and he has not been arrested. She went on to state that someone was trying to destroy his character.

His social media platform states that he lives in New York.

The Jamaican Defense Act makes it a criminal offense punishable by a maximum imprisonment of up to two years under military law if a member desert the organization. Ironically, Ennis traveled to the United States and Cuba over the years but did not return to Jamaica until Thursday, June 9, to attend his grandfather's funeral.

Someone familiar with JDF said that deserting is considered a serious offense, and the long arm of the law will eventually track people down for leaving the force without the proper procedure. Some officers serve for six years commissions.
