(CMR) The Cayman Islands on Monday (May 25) recorded five new cases of COVID-19 which brings the island’s total to 134.
Dr. Lee made the announcement at the coronavirus press briefing.
Lee noted that the new cases were recorded against individuals who were asymptomatic and working in the construction industry.
“One was a contact of someone known to have COVID-19 and the other four were part of the general screening programme,” said Lee
“We have 13 symptomatic people, 59 asymptomatic , no one is admitted and 61 have recovered, “ added Lee.
Lee further said that given the back to work orders for workers in the construction industry, there have been efforts to ramp up testing among that group.
According to Lee, six people have tested positive in the industry with Lee reporting that about 10 percent of workers in the sector have been tested.
“We have the results for around 10 percent of the group so far. Of those six there don't appear to be any particular clustered groups. And six is a small number out of 850, of course, and we will continue to report that group and are anticipating that we will have around 2,000 construction workers to report on as time goes along,” added Lee.
